For small change, members make a big difference
Little River members have an easy way to make a difference in their community through Operation Round Up.
“In 2022, members contributed nearly $35,000 to help their neighbors in need,” says Tricia Smith, the co-ops’ member services and communications director. “That’s the cooperative spirit in action. And just think—if all members round up, we could distribute nearly $80,000 in aid a year!”
Operation Round Up is a voluntary program through which Little River members agree to allow the co-op to round their electric bills up to the next whole dollar. Members contribute an average of $6 per year.
Operation Round Up funds assist co-op members facing emergencies such as house fires, unexpected medical expenses, and setbacks. A volunteer trust board carefully considers all applications for aid. Members are eligible to apply once a year. The trust board also sponsors a monetary fundraiser for local food banks.
