LREC sets record with sixth President’s Safety Award
At Little River Electric Cooperative, safety is more than a priority, it is part of our culture. From the field to the office, every employee plays a role in creating a safe work environment.
This year, Little River Electric Cooperative was honored to receive the President’s Safety Award from The Electric Cooperatives of South Carolina for the sixth consecutive year, setting a record for our cooperative. The annual award recognizes local cooperatives with the lowest OSHA-recordable accident rates while highlighting a strong safety culture and commitment to preventing workplace injuries, including lost-time accidents.

LREC believes every accident is preventable and every employee deserves to return home safely every day. Employees recently gathered to celebrate the co-op receiving its sixth consecutive President’s Safety Award.
Our cooperative has proudly supported the Commitment to Zero safety program for years, reinforcing the belief that every accident is preventable, and every employee deserves to return home safely each day. We are also embracing Commitment to Zero 2.0, a nationwide initiative developed by National Rural Electric Cooperative Association and Federated Rural Electric Insurance Exchange. The updated program strengthens safety culture through employee engagement, leadership accountability and continuous improvement across all areas of the cooperative.
We are especially proud to have achieved more than 2,300 days without a lost-time accident milestone that reflects the dedication and responsibility of our employees every day.
No matter the task, our focus remains the same: providing our members with reliable service in the safest and most efficient way possible. Members can help support that mission by keeping utility poles and electrical equipment free of debris, shrubs and personal belongings.
We also ask that rights-of-way remain clear of fences, landscaping and stored items so crews can safely access and maintain the electric system when needed. Working together, we can help ensure a safer environment for our employees and continue delivering the reliable service our members depend on.
