It’s that time of year again! We are in the planning stages of Little River’s 82nd Annual Meeting. Back by popular demand, we will have drive-thru registration and voting. The overwhelming feedback is our members love the convenience and the abundance of safety the ability to remain in your vehicle provides. Look for registration dates and locations in your August South Carolina Living along with the official notice and prize information.
Each member who registers will receive a $25 bill credit and will be entered into the prize drawings for additional bill credits and gift cards. Winners will be drawn during the business meeting virtual livestream. Only members who register in person will be eligible for registration credit and prizes. Please note, members are limited to ONE registration per household and may NOT register others who are not in attendance.
In addition to registration, members will be voting for proposed bylaw changes and proposed changes that address compliance with governance and “right sizing” the board coinciding with redrawing of our board districts to deliver equity across districts. More information on these changes will be in your August South Carolina Living.
The Board of Trustees is asking for the members’ vote (YES) to reduce the number of Trustees from a maximum of ten under the current Bylaws to an eventual and fixed number of seven under the proposed new Bylaws.
This will provide substantial savings to the members. When fully implemented, this change is calculated to save the cooperative more than $30,000 every year, thereby contributing to the cooperative’s efforts to keep rates as low as possible, but without any reduction to or harm in service to the members.
Little River currently has one of the largest boards in the state, despite being one of the smallest cooperatives. As a result of this imbalance, members of LREC incur higher than necessary carrying costs to support governance functions. The proposed change aims to save money by correcting this imbalance. Every trustee unanimously supports this proposal, and we ask for your support too, VOTE YES!
From everyone here at Little River, we’d like to encourage you to come out and support your cooperative on September 17. We look forward to seeing you.
