Little River members have an easy way to make a difference in their community through Operation Round Up.
“In 2019, members contributed over $31,000 to help their neighbors in need,” says Tricia Smith, the co-op’s member services and communications director. “That’s the cooperative spirit in action. And just think: If all members round up, we could distribute up to $80,000 in aid a year!”
Operation Round Up is a voluntary program through which Little River members agree to allow the co-op to round their electric bills up to the next whole dollar. Members contribute an average of about $6 per year.
Operation Round Up funds assist co-op members facing emergencies such as house fires, unexpected medical expenses and setbacks. A volunteer trust board carefully considers all applications for aid. Members are eligible to apply once every two years. The trust board also sponsors the food drive at Little River’s annual meeting, benefiting local food banks.
