Three local students will assist members at Little River Electric’s annual meeting August 10, where they’ll also share their experiences on this summer’s Washington Youth Tour and South Carolina Cooperative Youth Summit.

Little River sponsored two students on the Youth Tour, held June 15-20 in the nation’s capital: Laura Janae Martin, daughter of Carolyn Crosby and Rudolph Martin and a rising senior at McCormick High, and Anna Brooke Powell, daughter of Rusty and Anita Powell and a rising senior at Abbeville High School. For the Youth Summit, held in Columbia July 9-12, the co-op sponsored William Luther “Luke” Bowman, son of Mary Anna and William Bowman and a rising senior at Crescent High School.

Both events reflect Little River’s commitment to community. The Youth Tour and the Youth Summit give local students first-hand interactions with elected officials and opportunities to learn about how independent, consumer-owned cooperatives work with government to improve the quality of life of their members. As they approach college age, the students also get a chance to interact with their peers from around the state and nation.
